Juvenile / Youth Justice / Child Protection Research Project
Charles Darwin University
Filed under: Counselling and Support, Education, Employment and Training, Health and Wellbeing, Indigenous Services, Legal Information and Services, Youth Group, Youth Peaks and Networks, Barkly, Central Australia, Darwin and Rural, East Arnhem, Katherine
This is a national research project with each jurisdiction carrying out the project in a consistent manner. The aim of the study is to address the following research questions:
1. What is the contemporary status of, and current challenges faced by, Australia’s Children’s / Youth Courts in relation to both their child welfare and criminal jurisdictions from the perspective of its judicial officers and other key stakeholders?
2. What issues and challenges do judicial officers and other key stakeholders believe the Children’s / Youth Court will face over the next decade?
3. What are the judicial officers’ and other key stakeholders’ assessments of, and degree of support for, child welfare and juvenile justice jurisdiction reforms that have recently been canvassed in Australia and overseas.
This is a two year project and we are now in the stage of data collection via interviews and focus groups. As part of this project, we would very much like to gain the views of professionals who work with young people who are in contact with the juvenile justice and child protection areas (direct practice, policy etc in both child protection and juvenile justice) and across government and non government agencies. I am also happy to do focus groups if there are a few people who might also like to provide some input in one agency or as a group.Location: DARWIN NT
