Recently at the NTYAN Sub Committee meeting a discussion started regarding NTYAN developing a Facebook account.

Ochre Card

From 1 March 2011 it will be mandatory for people who have contact or potential contact with children in certain specified areas of employment to hold a Working with Children Clearance Notice. Everyone who is issued with a Working with Children Clearance Notice will also receive an Ochre Card.

Has anyone encountered any issues with obtaining an Ochre Card?

Difficulties getting into apprenticeship for people with hearing issues

Hi,

I am creating this thread to discuss thoughts of each member of this forum.

I, myself are deaf since birth, and now I have finished year 12 a couple of years ago and got into a couple of jobs, just general jobs, like I.T and removalist etc.

What frustrates me the most is, that I find it difficult to get an apprenticeship especially in plumbing due to reasons:
- Communication
- Lack of awareness in deafness
- Safety, like most devices are alarmed by noises not flashing to met deaf needs.
- Cost (to purchase interpreter(s), safety to suit deaf people)

That’s all of the reasons I could think of.

Please discuss your thoughts on how to resolve those issues in the trade industry.
