Plugged In: Remote Australian Indigenous Youth and Digital Culture
This paper draws on ethnographic case study data from research with Indigenous youth who are participating in non-formal community-based media and music production and digital community archiving projects in remote regions. For these young adults the generational shift has been rapid, as many of their elders once lived a pre-contact nomadic existence.
Independent Review of Policing In Remote Indigenous Communities in the Northern Territory
This report examines how improve policing services and extend these services to more communities. The review makes recommendations around consistent service standards; recruitment, training and development; and resource planning and funding considerations for extending policing to remote communities in the Northern Territory.
Generational Change, Learning and Remote Australian Indigenous Youth
This paper argues that if young people are to become competent, mature adults able to shape their own futures and the economic and social viability of their communities, then attention will need to be paid, not only to institutional education and training pathways, but also to other approaches to learning. Such alternate pathways can contribute to the formation of a positive sense of self, strong cultural identities and the learning and literacy skills needed to shape Indigenous futures.
Outcomes from the Productivity Places Program, 2009
This publication presents information about the outcomes for students who completed their vocational education and training (VET) under the Productivity Places Program (PPP) during 2008. Information about the level and type of training students undertake, further study patterns, whether they achieved their main reason for undertaking training and how relevant the training was to their current job is also collected. around 45 participating universities.

Rock & Water 3 Day Workshops in the NT in May and August
Over 20,000 educators have been trained in the Rock and Water Program throughout Australia. This program offers educators a new way to interact with boys and girls through physical/social teaching. Physical exercises are constantly linked with mental and social skills. Many health services, youth services and schools have introduced Rock and Water as an effective anti-bullying tool.

Restrictive and Supportive Parenting: Effects on Children’s School Affect and Emotional Responses
In this project upper primary school students were surveyed about their general liking for school, and reasons for going to school. Their parents were asked to respond on a questionnaire indicating their restrictiveness and also support for their child’s autonomy.

The Prevalence of Child Abuse and Neglect
The purpose of this Resource Sheet is to summarise the state of our knowledge about the prevalence of child abuse and neglect. It provides an overview of Australian studies that have estimated the prevalence of the different forms of child maltreatment (i.e., physical abuse, neglect, emotional maltreatment, the witnessing of family violence, and sexual abuse). In this Resource Sheet the terms “child abuse and neglect” and “child maltreatment” are used interchangeably.
Emerging Issues in Domestic/Family Violence Research
This paper presents an overview of some of the key emerging issues in Australian domestic and family violence (D/FV) research. In particular, the paper considers research in the context of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and intersex (GLBTI) communities; among the elderly; those with disabilities and people from cultural and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds; family violence and Indigenous communities; the relevance of homelessness; the impact of D/FV on children; and issues around perpetrator programs.

The 2009 NAPLAN results for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students again show high rates of failure to meet the national minimum standards. Failure rates of 40 to 50% are common in Indigenous schools and rise to more than 70% in the Northern Territory.

Relationships Australia has created a national network of employees that actively engages in the development of culturally relevant and innovative service provision and practices.

The Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs provides funding to support projects or initiatives which directly benefit Aboriginal people living in the Northern Territory.
CDEP Work Experience Subsidy (CWES)
Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations provides funding to provide wage subsidies to employers who offer paid work experience to new CDEP participants (on income support).
NT Companion Card Scheme
Northern Territory Government is providing funding to enable people with disability who require lifelong attendant care support from a companion to participate in identified activities without incurring the cost of a second ticket for their companion.
Sidney Myer Fund - Poverty and Disadvantage - Small Grants Program
The Sidney Myer Fund provides grants of up to $10,000 to help create a good society by promoting justice and equity.

Peter Brock Foundation provides funding to provide assistance to various organisations and worthwhile causes. The Foundation also has a strong commitment to assisting the community and individuals in times of need.
