Youth Off The Streets 2012 Scholarship Program
The Youth Off The Streets National Scholarship Program celebrates the gifts and strengths of young people from the Australian community who exhibit extraordinary promise, but who lack the personal support networks and resources that will allow them to fulfil that potential. The initiative developed by Father Chris Riley, CEO and founder of Youth Off The Streets, provides financial and personal support for young people to pursue their dreams in any field, including, but not limited to - visual or performing arts; sport; trade skills; and music. Nominations can be made by the young person themselves, or on their behalf by a teacher, Youth Worker or other party involved in the young person’s life. The closing date for nominations is 5pm on 6 April 2012.
Calling Young ATSI People to get involved in Constitutional Recognition
This March, the National Centre of Indigenous Excellence (NCIE) will be hosting a three day Constitutional Recognition Forum for young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians. The Forum will provide young Indigenous Australians (aged 16-25) from across the country with an opportunity to come together to learn about Constitutional Recognition and develop a youth driven campaign. They would like to have each state and territory represented, and they need our support to promote this fantastic opportunity to the young ATSI people that the NTYAN work with and support.
Now Recruiting for Inspiring Young Indigenous Runners
The New York City Marathon is one of the toughest and biggest running events in the world, with 48,000 runners and 2.5 million spectators. The Indigenous Marathon Project team are seeking outstanding Indigenous men and women aged between 18 and 30, that have the commitment and ability to train for this endurance running event. They will be coached and supervised by Australian marathon champion, Rob de Castella, be required to attend a number of training camps around Australia during the year, and undertake a special Cert III in Community Recreation – Indigenous Health.
Compass ABC TV – Seeking Young People to Make a “Holy Switch”
Compass ABC TV is looking for 6 young people to make a “Holy Switch.” They are looking for young adults (18-23yrs) from around Australia, who are part of a family who puts faith at the heart of daily life. For two weeks (between March and May, 2012) these young people will take up the challenge to live a totally different life with a host family from another faith.
Insight - Seeking Views From Young Males on Body Image
Insight is a debate forum on SBS Television. They are doing a show on male body image and are looking to speak to young males aged 14-18 about their ideal body shape.
Come and Try Tennis - Darwin
Tennis NT welcomes school-aged kids (5-9 yrs) and teenagers (10 + years) to come and try tennis at the Darwin Waterfront this Sunday, 29 January, 2012 from 2pm – 5pm. The Come and Try Tennis event is a great opportunity for young people to learn a fun new sport. The event is FREE. Bring sunscreen, hat, bathers and towel to cool off afterwards in the Recreation Lagoon.
New AYAC Website Competition
The Australian Youth Affairs Coalition (AYAC) needs your help! They are seeking an engaging name for their new website that expresses its functionality, but is also original and catchy. The winning entry will receive a $50 iTunes voucher. The competition closes 29 February, 2012.
National NAIDOC Poster Competition
Do you know any talented Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) artists aged 13 years and older who might want to enter the National NAIDOC poster competition? The National NAIDOC Poster Competition is an opportunity for talented ATSI artists to have their artwork showcased across Australia as part of NAIDOC celebrations. Each year, Indigenous artists are invited to submit artwork(s) based on the National NAIDOC theme. The 2012 National NAIDOC Poster Competition is now open.
Community Engagement: What does it take for you to get involved?
There are over 3.7 million young people in Australia; this is a pretty big reason why young people should have their say on policy and programs that will impact them now and in the future. The Australian Youth Forum (AYF) would like to hear what young people think about the best ways to engage young people in decision-making and becoming active in the community.
New Film Festival for Young People: Calling for Entries!
FilmLife aims to capture the stories of organ donation and transplantation through the eyes of young filmmakers. They are currently doing a national shout out for entries. Entries close February 13, and films with be screened February 18 at an event in Parramatta and online! Anyone aged 16-35 can enter a film and there is a $10,000 prize pool.
Tune In Not Out
Tune In Not Out provides 24hr TV for life’s challenges from mental to sexual health. Tune In Not Out brings videos, factsheets, real stories and blogs from across Australia into one central point for young people to explore. The content is created for and by young people. So if you are aged 16-25 and want to get involved for 10 minutes, a whole day or every week, the Tune In Not Out team welcome your involvement from blogs, marketing, social media to video creation and more.
Film Workshops Touring in 2012
In The Bin is Australia’s largest touring cultural event, and they will be touring again in 2012! They offer three day film education programs where students learn while creating, shooting, and editing their own short films. All of the production equipment will be provided by In The Bin, including industry standard editing hardware.
Qantas Spirit of Youth Awards
The Qantas Spirit of Youth Awards offers Musicians aged 18 – 30 the chance to leap to the next level, with a trip of a lifetime to The CMJ Music Marathon & Film Festival in October 2012. You’ll also be offered a professional mentorship with internationally recognised producer, songwriter and engineer Lee Groves, and $5,000 cash.

Free Holiday Activities for Youth in Katherine - January 2012
The YMCA of Katherine is running a Free Activities for Youth program with support from other youth organisations, such as NT Police, Somerville NT, LINKZs and Mission Australia. All events are Free. Water is supplied. Food and drinks will be available to purchase.
2012 Science and Engineering Challenge for Youth
The Science and Engineering Challenge is a joint project managed by Engineers Australia Northern Division and supported by Charles Darwin University. Created and run on the day by the University of Newcastle, the Science & Engineering Challenge is a fun day of competition designed to demonstrate the varied possibilities science & engineering offer as a profession. Registration for the Darwin / Alice Springs challenge will open in February 2012.
National Day of Action against Bullying 2012
On Friday 16 March 2012 schools throughout Australia will join together to celebrate the annual National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence. The focus of the 2012 day will be on parents and families taking a stand together with school communities and recognising the important role everyone plays.
Heywire 2012
Heywire is a competition calling on young people aged 16-22 to submit stories in text, pictures, film or audio, about life in Australia outside the major cities. Entries are now open for the 2012 Heywire competition. Upload your story, and let’s highlight what living in the Territory is all about!
2012 Defence Indigenous Development Program (DIDP) NT
The DIDP provides young Indigenous adults with the education, training, life skills, confidence and opportunities to secure and sustain ongoing full time employment of their choice. In 2012 the DIDP-NT intake will increase to 30 participants from all remote and regional areas of mainland Australia. Applications are now open for the 2012 DIDP program and completed applications are required by 10 Feb 2012.
Tracks Dance 2012 Festival Show Audition
Tracks Dance Company looking for expressions of interest from dancers aged between 8 to 80 who are interested in performing in their 2012 Darwin Festival production titled 8 to 80 - A Whole of Life Experience. This architecture of age will explode with wicked and wise dance moves. History, knowledge, tradition and youth will come together to give a snap shot of who we are right now, in a performance as intergenerational and intercultural as this place we call home.
