The Australian Youth Affairs Coalition (AYAC) is excited to endorse “Young Minds,” a summit of leading experts from Australia and overseas designed to stimulate discussion about some of the most pressing issues facing young people today. AYAC is offering 5 free GOLD PASSES to the conference for young people aged 25 and under, worth $1855 each. The conference is being held in Sydney on 21-22 June 2012.

2012 H4H ATSI Basketball Tournament

Hoops 4 Health Aboriginal Corporation (H4H) is a health promotion charity based in Darwin, Northern Territory. The Organisation is governed by a Board of Directors, all of whom are Aboriginal people who reside in the Northern Territory. Hoops 4 Health, programs and facilitators use the sport of basketball as the vehicle to advocate for the continued improvement of the lives of Indigenous youth, children, families and communities. Hoops 4 Health would like to invite Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) youth to attend their 2012 H4H Basketball Tournament on 13-15 July.

Calling for Applications - Funded Youth Delegations to G20 and Rio+20!

Established in 2011, Global Voices is a not for profit organisation seeking to promote an understanding of and participation in international diplomacy by young Australians. They do this through regular events and research & development opportunities at home, along with the coordination of youth delegations to important diplomatic forums abroad. Global Voices is now calling for applications to attend the G8 & G20 Youth Summit in the United States and the Rio+20 Earth Summit in Brazil. In total there are twelve positions available and all delegates will receive a sponsored package to attend. Any young person nationwide is eligible to apply for the Rio+20 delegation.  Applications close at midnight (Australian Eastern Daylight Savings Time) on Sunday 4 March, 2012.

Youth Harmony Day Event – Darwin

This year for Harmony Day, Multicultural Youth Northern Territory (MYNT) is planning an event with a youth focus, called ‘Playing for Harmony.’ As this year’s Harmony Day theme is ‘Sport,’ MyNT will hold a soccer game with young people of diverse backgrounds. After the soccer game, food and music from diverse cultures will be provided for FREE. The event will take place at Student Square at Charles Darwin University on Friday 23 March 2012 from 4-7pm, with indoor games taking place inside the gym for those who don’t want to play soccer, or if the weather is poor.

Watch My Space - New Cyber Bullying Website & Competition

Watch My Space is a cyber solution to a cyber problem driven by young people working with Corrugated Iron Youth Arts and NT Police. The goal of the website is to help shift the mindset of bystanders, build resilience of victims, and increase understanding of this significant social issue.

Watch My Space have recently announced a Territory wide competition for 12-18 year olds designed to raise awareness about cyber bullying, the problems and possible solutions by encouraging positive use of cyber space. The competition will run until April 5, and winners will be announced during Youth Week which this year runs from 13 – 22 April. Watch My Space will be giving away over $17,000 worth of prizes! This is a great opportunity for the young people that you work with to get on board, and come up with some creative solutions to cyber bullying.

Gondwana National Choirs 2012

Gondwana National Choirs continue to foster the future of Australian choral music, offering life-changing musical opportunities for young Australians. Participation in Gondwana National Choral School is based on an annual application and audition process and is open to young people from all over Australia. Auditions will be held in Darwin on Wednesday 5 October 2012. Audiovisual auditions will be accepted from applicants living in regional or remote areas (200km from Darwin).

Skarlett Launch SLAM Day Appeal

Territory teenage band Skarlett are keen to secure an under 18s music venue in Darwin, in order to support the 2012 national SLAM Day (Save Live Australian Music) campaign, on February 23.

“A SLAM gig will be held at the Darwin Railway Club but that’s targeted at adult gig goers. We want to celebrate SLAM at a gig targeted at young people” said Skarlett.

Young Noise Homelessness Road Trip 2012

Young Noise is uniting a generation to create a sustainable country free from youth homelessness. They are looking for young people aged from 14-26, who are confident engaging natural leaders, passionate about ending world poverty, to embark on a nationwide road trip to help end youth homelessness and raise awareness. They plan to leave from every major city in the country in order to spread the message and raise awareness of homelessness. Through flash mobs, meetings with MPs and businesses, speeches at schools, music events and more, they hope to generate the groundswell of support necessary to achieve real change! Calling Young ATSI People to get involved in Constitutional Recognition

This March, the National Centre of Indigenous Excellence (NCIE) will be hosting a three day Constitutional Recognition Forum for young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians. The Forum will provide young Indigenous Australians (aged 16-25) from across the country with an opportunity to come together to learn about Constitutional Recognition and develop a youth driven campaign. They would like to have each state and territory represented, and they need our support to promote this fantastic opportunity to the young ATSI people that the NTYAN work with and support.

Now Recruiting for Inspiring Young Indigenous Runners

The New York City Marathon is one of the toughest and biggest running events in the world, with 48,000 runners and 2.5 million spectators. The Indigenous Marathon Project team are seeking outstanding Indigenous men and women aged between 18 and 30, that have the commitment and ability to train for this endurance running event. They will be coached and supervised by Australian marathon champion, Rob de Castella, be required to attend a number of training camps around Australia during the year, and undertake a special Cert III in Community Recreation – Indigenous Health.

New Film Festival for Young People: Calling for Entries!
