Coles Junior Landcare School Garden Grant
This program aims to get kids actively involved in their environment and enable them to develop sustainable habits from a young age by financially supporting schools and youth groups. Funding of up to $1,100 is available for various landcare activities such as bush tucker gardens, composting and green waste recycling, waterwise and carbon gardening amongst other eligible activities.
Who can apply:
All schools, kindergartens, day care centres, and youth groups seeking to educate young Australians about the environment may be eligible to apply.
If the group is not incorporated, a partnership must be formed with an organisation that will (and can) accept responsibility for administering the financial aspects of the grant.
Eligible activities include:
- Bush Tucker gardens.
- Vegetable garden.
- Composting and green waste recycling activities.
- Awareness raising of food miles through growing your own produce.
- Waterwise and Carbon gardening activities.
- Purchase of kids gardening equipment (gloves, shovels etc) up to the value of $500.
Preference will be given to applications which:
1. Demonstrate strong environmental education outcomes and links to school curriculum.
2. Involve the following groups:
- Landcare groups and Natural Resource Management Organisations.
- Local government.
- Parents, the wider community and community groups.
- Local business.
3. Promote leadership and environmental stewardship.
4. Directly engage students in on-ground environmental sustainability activities.
5. Support a range of activities.
Applications close 17 February, 2012.
