Transition to Independent Living Allowance (TILA)

The Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations provides funding of up to $1 500 to assist some young people who are making the transition from formal and informal care to independent living.

If you are eligible for Transition to Independent Living Allowance (TILA) you can get assistance in paying for some of the things you need to successfully make the transition to independent living.

What can be paid under the allowance?

• Connection to Utilities to assist in the establishment of housing

• Moving expenses

• Appliances

• Whitegoods

• Furnishings

• Consumables

• Financial or other counselling

• Education

• Transport to undertake studies or employment

• Bus Tickets, Phone Cards etc.
